Friday Link Dump: Puppy Gifs, Book Lists And Food Porn

Hello lovely readers! Sorry for the lack of posting in the last couple of weeks, it's been quite hectic in my real world. For instance, I turned 27 AND celebrated my first wedding anniversary. Cue musings on the shortness of life and other fun stuff. But you're here for links, and by golly, do I have some for you:

-BuzzFeed lists some books you should read in your 20s.

-Prepare to have your mind blown by the handwritten outlines of famous authors.

-The Review Locker compares the cast of three The Great Gatsby adaptations. It seems like the new one has some winners. I can't wait to see it!

-I'm really keen to see About Time, which looks like The Time Traveler's Wife in that it involves time travel and stars Rachel McAdams, but it's British and therefore more awesome.

-I've been watching so much Parks and Recreation, and it's great food porn. And amazeballs in general. You know what else is amazeballs? A Storm of Swansons, which is what you get when you cross Parks and Recreation with Game of Thrones.

-You can now insert Tobias from Arrested Development into your own photos and video. It's incredibly addictive and entertaining.

-Here are 100 insightful and often hilarious behind-the-scenes shots from famous movies.

-I wish the Disney Princess Academy would happen. I want to go to there.

-Taking your bra off at the end of the day really is the best feeling ever.

-When I discovered Owl Turd comics I was entertained for hours (well, many minutes, at least). Meanwhile here are what random tweets look like as a comic.

-Fashion in History is a pretty AND informative Tumblr.

-Pets on Roombas makes me really want a Roomba. And an adorable pet to ride it.

-Richard Armitage with Cats is probably the best Tumblr in existence. Next to Puppy Gifs, of course.

Friday Link Dump: Trailers, Hidden Rooms And The Anatomy Of A Book

-The trailer for City of Bones is here and even though I didn't love the book, I'm kinda excited for the movie. It looks fun.

-I'm even more excited for the The Great Gatsby movie, especially after seeing the new trailer.

-I also can't wait for the new season of True Blood. It looks so awesome.

-When I grow up, I totally want a hidden room through my bookshelves and/or wardrobe.

-The anatomy of the book is pretty interesting.

-This is what Game of Thrones would look like if Westeros had Facebook. Meanwhile, you can learn Dothraki if you have enough time and, er, interest. And here's an entertaining remix featuring big Game of Thrones moments.

-The Lizzie Bennet Diaries is sadly over, but Hypable have listed their top ten episodes of the web series. I agree with pretty much all of them except their number one.

-Here's a  very cool way to deliver writing advice.

-Melina Marchetta is doing a Q&A session on Goodreads on April 30.

-Here are the real life people that inspired the looks of Disney characters.

-This parody of Taylor Swift's '22' is both hilarious and depressing. The latter mainly because this is basically my life at 26...

-But hey, informercial people failing at life in GIF form will make you feel better about your own life.

-And these The Golden Girls insults are well, pure gold.

Friday Link Dump: Game of Thrones, Lizzie Bennet and Liz Lemon

-I can't freaking wait for Game of Thrones season 3, and these pics only made me more excited.

-It's been a massive week in The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. The Lydia drama has finally come to a head and the fandom is an emotional wreck. On the positive side, there's this behind-the-scenes look at the show and fantastic interviews with the creators, as well as Ashley Clements' new Tumblr about how she picks each Lizzie outfit.

-Here's how the world celebrated Pride and Prejudice's 200th anniversary earlier this week. I think Cadbury did it best.

-Chloe Moretz is going to star in the adaptation of If I Stay and I'm excited. I can't wait to see who is cast as Adam...

-Apparently, Mean Girls can be mashed up with anything - including Les Miserables. Amazing.

-Have you watched Disney's Paperman short yet? If not, you totally should. It's beautiful.

-This is a handy guide to what glasses to use with certain beverages, but who has room for that many kinds of glasses?! Not me, anyway.

-30 Rock has come to an end (sob!) and the internet has been commemorating. Some of my fave posts include 11 life lessons you can learn from Liz Lemon plus the most important lessons from the show itself. And, of course, this collection of Liz Lemon reaction gifs.

-The best moments from the Ellen show will make you smile.

-These tea bag cookies are adorable! I'm obsessed.

-Beyonce and her amazing dance moves are absolutely mesmerising in this gif collection.

-This list of the dumbest things ever said on the internet could make you feel better about your day. Or it could make you want to leave the planet.

On this blog
-I reviewed Graffiti Moon by Cath Crowley, plus Glitter Kiss by Adrianne Ambrose and Ghosting by Keith Gray.

Friday Link Dump: Bookish Board Games and Shirtless Vampires

Here are ten literary board games you know you want to play.

How well do you know the chests of The Vampire Diaries boys? I got seven out of nine right, which is just not good enough. Clearly I need to study them some more.

The new publicity images for season six of Mad Men are gorgeous. I still need to catch up on season five!

Love these vintage photos of Australian beach life and Paris fun.

I need to eat make this Milo cheesecake. It looks amazing.

Here are some very creative (and cute) photos of Stormtrooper lego.

On this blog
I introduced a new feature!
I reviewed The Woman in Black by Susan Hill.
I found some gorgeous typewriter-inspired products.
I talked about how addictive it is to DNF.
One of the top search terms was "Alexander Skarsgard huge cock." Unfortunately, I don't have the answer to that, but I do have this gif...

Ahem...

Friday Link Dump: Catching Fire, Floating Bookstores and Zac Efron's Butt.

The butt is in the last link. I'm not all about the butts. Just mostly.

This week I got Under the Covers with Jo from one of my favourite book blogs, Wear the Old Coat, and shared the stories behind two very special books on my shelf.

Entertainment Weekly has the first stills from Catching Fire and they look awesome. Especially Sam Claflin as Finnick, he is exactly as I pictured him when I was reading the book. My one gripe is that Peeta and Gale look like they have the same hair colour. P.S. Jennifer Lawrence won a People's Choice Award for The Hunger Games and was totally adorable in her acceptance speech.

Wendy Darling is doing a Cost of Book Blogging survey, to get some figures on the value of book blogging. Take part if you're a book blogger!

Want your very own Harry Potter-inspired magical wand? Here's how to make one. Clever!

The world's largest floating bookstore. I want to go to there.

I love discovering book inscriptions in old, used books. Which is why I loved discovering a blog full of them!

The Victorians didn't like to smile in photographs, but apparently they did like to appear headless.  Creepy.

I love this dollhouse-inside-a-guitar. Kinda makes me want to be a "miniature maker" myself. (It's just an excuse for grown-ups to play with dollhouses, right?)

You know what's strangely mesmerising? This male model being hit repeatedly with water balloons.

Also Zac Efron's butt. What I'm getting from this gif set is that the Zefron spends a lot of time in The Paperboy wearing nothing but tighty whiteys. Which is enough to make me want to see it.

Friday Link Dump: Chris Evans' Butt. 'Nuff Said.

Flavorwire has listed 20 books every woman should read in her 20s. I haven't read any of them, guess I better get cracking!

The man-candiest moments of 2012. When I was done being mesmerised by Chris Evans' butt (OK, not really done, but I dragged myself away for two seconds), the one thought I had about this is: Dean Geyer?! Oh dear.

Apparently, snowball fights were popular in medieval times. Which is kind of totally awesome.

Here's 28 people who should have thought twice. Some of these are dumb, but a few made me giggle. Mainly dogs humping things. That's not weird, right?

Tumblr of the week: Old Hollywood Face Swap. YES!

Friday Links: Say hello to your friends...

Sad news today: prolific Australian author Bryce Courtenay has passed away. He posted a YouTube message thanking his fans a few weeks ago; it's absolutely heartbreaking.

The rest of this post is pretty silly, and there's no good way to segue, so my apologies, and here goes...

In honour of the first 20 The Baby-Sitters Club books getting released as ebooks, Ann M. Martin has named her favourites from the early series. Out of these, Boy-Crazy Stacey was totally my fave. I always liked the Claudia and Stacey books the best.

These bookish houses make me drool. My dream is to have a house with a beautiful library one day. Sigh.

Book Depository has compiled a list of the prettiest books in their collection, just in time for Christmas. I wish I had a kid to buy for so I could get some of the amazing pop-ups... or maybe I should just treat myself. Coz we all know I'm secretly nine years old at heart.

Laini Taylor gives five great writing tips, and some good advice for life, really:  "The main thing I’ve learned is that we all have to learn to work with - and appreciate - the brain we’ve been given, and not waste time wishing things were easier."

This is what season one and two of Game of Thrones would would like as old-school video games. (Spoiler: Awesome. And hilarious).

I love Robert Pattinson in interviews. He says the craziest things. He must give his publicist nightmares - or, at least, Summit's publicists. Especially with the statements he makes in this supercut of his thinly veiled disdain for the Twilight franchise. Gold.

Some sports show hosts in the US slipped an amazing amount of The Princess Bride quotes into their half-hour show, and it's the best sports show I've ever seen in my life. It's even more awesome that apparently it wasn't planned. I'm not into anything to do with sports, but I might be if they were like this all the time.

Here are the names for things that you didn't realise had names. Natiform, anyone?

True story: The Mighty Ducks totally taught me that Iceland is green and Greenland is covered in ice. Here are 32 other reasons the series rocked.

Marlon Brando sure was beautiful when he was young. Here are a bunch of photos of him, being beautiful.

Michael Fassbender massaging Ryan Gosling = the bromance you never knew you wanted. Speaking of Ryan Gosling, click here if you want to rub his boner. Ahem.

Russell Brand interviewed two members of Westboro Baptist Church and made them look like the hateful idiots they are. Aside from being hilarious, he makes some very good, intelligent points.

Hot guys + babies = ovary explosions.

Love music history and/or pixelated gifs? This blog is for you.

Friday Link Dump: So Many Trailers! And Some Other Stuff

Stephanie Meyer hasn't ruled out more Twilight books - in fact, apparently she's already plotted out a few more focusing on Renesmee and Jacob. Ick. No word on whether the rest of The Host series is coming any time soon, but the trailer for the movie has just been released. It doesn't look amazing, except for Max Irons. Dayum.

A UK charity for abuse victims asked for donations of 50 Shades of Grey so they could use it to wipe their bums. Which is kind of hilarious. Not so hilarious is the fact that one woman is blaming the book for the disintegration of her marriage. Oh dear...

Should I read Beautiful Creatures? For some reason it's passed under my radar until recently, but now the internet is kinda exploding over the movie trailer. The cast is great but the story doesn't totally grab me from the trailer alone. Bit over paranormal romance TBH, though it's good to see the guy as the mortal for a change.

Another trailer that's making the rounds is the one for Warm Bodies. When I first heard about it I thought it was just cashing in on Twilight (with zombies) but it actually looks kinda good. The comments about R having the kind of face that could mean he's in his 20s, but could also mean he's a teenager, are particularly funny in light of the author's minor tantrum over the fact that his book isn't YA, even though it looks like it is to a lot of people.

Then there's the City of Bones trailer (what is the, Trailer Week?). I wasn't a massive fan of the book, but the movie looks pretty good. The cast looks right - even Jamie Campbell Bower. I wasn't convinced when they cast him, but judging by the trailer he does a good job as Jace.

I'm not fussed on Sookie's new "love interest" for the next season of True Blood. I guess this means they're not using Quinn, which I can't say I'm sad about. I never really liked him in the books. But ugh, enough with the faeries! Just have hot vampire sex with non-amnesiac Eric already!

Speaking of Sookie, the synopsis for the final book in Charlaine Harris' series has been released. The stuff about Eric being distant is annoying but unsurprising. I just hope they end up together in the end. Because all the other guys blow.

The Oatmeal's latest comic on writing and content creation is both hilarious and insightful. His analogy of inspiration as a river is great, as is his advice for reading feedback and comments online (basically, it's not a good idea *cough*SPAs*cough*).

The Oxford American Dictionary has named the word of the year: GIF. Given my love of gifs, I appreciate this, but it's especially great considering the other contender was YOLO. Which I think we can all agree needs to live up to its meaning and go die.

You know how action figures/celeb dolls often look kinda fugly? This guy repaints them so they're more realistic, and they're absolutely amazing.

Will Smith still knows every word to the Fresh Prince of Bel-Air rap. And it's awesome.

I'm pretty sure Andrew Garfield is my favourite human being right now. Watch him do 10 different dances - with no music - for charity on Ellen.

This gif set is pretty much the story of my life.

Friday Link Dump: BSC Fashion, Homo Sapiens and Old-Timey Hotness

I am not obsessed with The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. OK, I totally am.
What would Claudia Kishi wear today? I think the clothes on this list - along with the other updates to childhood style icons - are pretty spot on. I kinda want to buy all the things.

Love, love, love this site featuring the stories of the books people have been given by the people they love.

There's a new Les Mis trailer out, this time with people who aren't Anne Hathaway doing some singing. I haven't seen the musical or read the book, so I have nothing to compare it to, and frankly, I'm excited.

I started this Cracked clip sending up Hollywood's version of high schoolers for the The Lizzie Bennet Diaries stars, but I stayed for the lolz. Speaking of Darcy and Fitz, this happened this week. Then this. The awesomeness of which only makes sense if you've been watching The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. If you haven't, you don't deserve the awesomeness. (Just kidding. But seriously, you should watch it.)

I love a good pun. But a bad one is often even better.

Buzzfeed has a look at the "now and then" of popular magazines, compiling their first issues alongside their most recent, and it's awesome. Some have changed so much - and others, barely at all (granted they're younger mags). And who knew Better Homes and Gardens started life as Fruit Garden and Home?!

Yep, everything is better in mini.

Are you OCD-inclined? This blog will probably make you happy.

Pedestrian has a pretty great list of their favourite music moments in movies. Some of my faves that they didn't mention include those in Pretty in Pink, Beetlejuice, Wayne's World, Reservoir Dogs and Say Anything.

These cakes filled with hidden surprises are the best things I've ever seen.

Thing I learnt this week: Our bodies have more bacterial cells than human cells in them. Ten times more. Also: humans started wearing clothes around 70, 000 years ago. Also: Oh, just read the article on the history (and future) of Homo Sapiens; it's absolutely fascinating.

What could be better than hot guys? Old-timey hot guys.

What could be better than old-timey hot guys?* Hot guys with puppies.

Still on the subject of old-timey things, they used to give hilarious (in hindsight) advice back in the day.

Jimmy Kimmel got his viewers to torture their kids on YouTube again by filming their reactions to being told all their Halloween candy had been eaten, and of course it's hilarious. Until the end, when I may have cried just a little bit at the awesome kids who don't mind sharing, especially the little dude who's like: "I don't care that you ate all my candy, mommy, I just want you to feel happy." Awwww.

If that didn't make your heart burst with squee, this cat that adopted baby hedgehogs will.

*Well, at least as awesome, if not better.

Friday Link Dump: DARCY DAY, Cover Twins and Emergency Compliments

Darcy finally made an appearance on The Lizzie Bennet Diaries. I loved the video, although Darcy seems like he's got something lodged far up his bum. I guess that's appropriate at this point in the story line. I hope we get to see his soft side on video, and not just off-screen. I thought the way they incorporated this scene into the "diary" aspect was clever, and it was a good scene to bring him in on. Does this mean he'll watch all of Lizzie's videos now? Will he film a video response of his own - the modern day letter? I can't wait for the next ep. Meanwhile, Tumblr is having a collective squeegasm.

Cover twins and cousins - when books look alike, things get confusing. And a bit boring.

This is what happens when two bloggers pair up to write about each other's greatest fears. Spoiler: It's awesome.

Looking for a UK YA book to read? Check out Readventurer's amazing wall of books. It follows their brilliant Aussie YA wall and short YA wall.

There are a crazy amount of adaptations of YA books coming out or in development at the moment.  I'm excited about The Night Circus (though it's not technically YA) and If I Stay, but really dreading The Book Thief - it's such a beautiful story, and there's so much potential to screw it up.

I freaking love it when celebs do Halloween. Chloe Grace Moretz as Bellatrix Lestrange = love!

Then there's Celebrities in Pony Form. My Little Pony form. Genius.

Did you know Taylor Swift's whole album is basically about Jake Gyllenhaal? Except when it's about Conor Kennedy.

Sometimes, disasters can bring out the best in people. Click here to have your heart warmed.

Still having a bad day? Get an emergency compliment.

Friday Link Dump: Mad Hatters, Fairy Tales and Ryan Gosling

This real-life Mad Hatter's tea party looks crazy fun. Hats! Stilts! Masks! Facepaint! TEA!

The Real Housewives of Westeros. YES.

A possible Twilight TV series? NO!

This is what would happen if fairy tale characters lived now... and were 20-something. Hilarious.

This girl has some of the most amazing (if completely impractical) pop culture-inspired nail art I've ever seen. I can't even pick a fave, there are so many brilliant pieces here.

If you would like the illusion of horror movies destroyed, look at these behind-the-scenes pictures from iconic films. Most are hilarious but some are mind blowing - namely, Gizmo from Gremlins is actually a giant.

Ryan Gosling had swag even at age 12, wearing a denim shirt and pronouncing his words like "oot" and "aboot".

That sound you hear is me drooling all over my keyboard thanks to these cake batter ice cream sandwiches.

Friday Link Dump: Game of Thrones Art, Literary Foods and Awkward Moments

This typographical Game of Thrones fan art is pretty awesomesauce. Speaking of Game of Thrones... can season three come out already?! I need me some Jon Snow action.

I don't know about you, but whenever I watch or read about a character eating something, it totally makes me want to eat it too (what, just me?). Luckily Quirk Books has compiled a list of some literary foods you can try in real life. I might steer clear of the green eggs and ham though...

I was addicted to Goosebumps as a kid. These days, I'm addicted to TV shows like Dexter, The Walking Dead and American Horror Story. The fact that this post combines those two addictions (in an incredibly clever way) makes me way happier than it should.

So I didn't realise that the dorky guy from NCIS is THACKERY BINX from Hocus Pocus and now I know and my mind is blown. Also, Hocus Pocus is the best movie of all time a great movie.

Watching Law and Order can sometimes feel like playing Where's Wally? with celebrities. Check out this super-cut for just some of the surprise cameos.

I love me some Gossip Girl fashion, so I found this post about the iconic style moments of the show by the Fug Girls super fun. This is the reason I tried to wear headbands for like three weeks in 2008. It was a painful time.

On a more sombre note, this gallery of photos from a psychiatric hospital in the 1930s is quite chilling and heartbreaking. It looks like something straight out of a horror movie.

Back to bright things, I dare you to look through this gallery of the the best wildlife photos of the year and not say, "woah!".

Awkward situations are always funny when they're happening to other people (or, er, animals).

Rose and violet flavoured fairy floss? Yes, please.

Friday Link Dump: Books About Books, Baby Animals and Judy Blume

Love books about books? Check out Flavorwire's recs.

Attention speshul snowflakes who can't handle a less than three star review: even the best get burned.

Want to know how to delight J.K. Rowling in a review and which book she keeps in her bathroom "for a giggle"? Read this awesome interview.

This bibliography-off between Judy Blume and Patton Oswalt is the reason why Twitter was invented. Or should be.

I tend to steer clear of politics on here but man, Julia Gillard's impassioned speech about Tony Abbott's misogyny earlier in the week gave me goosebumps.

You know what's more adorable than baby animals? Baby animals having baths.

As if you need more proof Tom Hanks is awesome... here it is anyway.

Speaking of awesome, John Cusack held a boom box on stage at a Peter Gabriel concert. And it was beautiful.

This is the best dog video in the history of the internet.

Friday Link Dump: Banned Books, Cute Animals and Zac Efron

A very talented teenager created these cool covers for Hogwarts textbooks. Kids these days...

This collection of photographs of the real-life people who inspired famous literary characters is fascinating. My favourite is the "real" Dorian Gray. He is very pretty.

Read famous authors' responses to their books being banned. It will make you smile and/or clap.

Did you know you can get Game of Thrones cons? They're pretty ugly. Much cuter merch can be found here. Ahem.

This piece on hate blogs is really fascinating, especially in light of recent book blogging dramz.

Everyone needs some Daily Animals in their life. Especially because, according to Science, looking at baby animals boosts your productivity. And makes your heart burst with squee. This website has taken the idea and run with it. You get a new cute kitteh picture for every hundred words you write. They should totally make a Ryan Gosling version. Forget Nanowrimo, I'd get that shit done in a day.

This genie IS a web genius. He guessed every single person I was thinking of. It's like he was IN MY MIND.

I'm totally addicted to making sound buttons. Here's one I prepared earlier.

This is what happens if you try to visit Dawson's actual creek. Eek.

This piece on Jezebel about a real-life baby beauty pageant experience is simultaneously hilarious and horrifying. Much like Toddlers and Tiaras, but more self-aware.

This real-life anime girl is kind of mind-blowing. Not necessarily in a good way.

This is the prettiest cheesecake I have ever seen. Mmm, cheesecake...

Bookish (And Other Awesome) Links: The BSC, Mr Darcy and Trolls

Awful Library Books: the place where terrible books go to live.

These videos about the history of certain words, told in animation using paper cuttings, are awesome.

Only one of these facts about The Baby-Sitters Club blew my mind (Kirsten Dunst was a cover model for Claudia and the Phantom Phone Calls!), but it's still a fun list.

Three words: Darcy paper doll. Go now. Lizzie is there too.

The story of how one man confronted his online troll. You'll never guess who it was. Intense reading. On a lighter note, this parody video about trolls made me chuckle.

As if my obsession with Joseph Gordon-Levitt wasn't already intense enough, Buzzfeed handily compiled a list of every gif from his Magic Mike dance you will ever need. And oh, will you need them.

The greatest moments in Australian history - Lego-fied. Not surprising that it's heavily sports-oriented, though I appreciate the The Castle inclusion.

The 50 most romantic photos of all time are as lovely as they sound.

Speaking of lovely, the gallery of Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward will renew your faith in celebrity love. Plus Paul Newman was a total fox.

While we're on that subject - Alec Baldwin was, like, such a Baldwin when he was younger.

I was obsessed with the Little Giants as a kid, so this kind of destroyed my childhood memories.

Have you ever seen Flamingos do their mating dance? Move over, Swan Lake...

Bookish (And Other Awesome) Links: Finnick, Bookshelves and Literary Pin-Ups

Sam Claflin is the perfect Finnick. I will not hear any detractors. He is Finnick. The end.
PS. Sorry, I didn't mean that. You can detract if you want. But that is pretty much exactly how I pictured Finnick so to me, he is perfect. Jena Malone, on the other hand, is nothing like how I pictured Johanna.
PPS. While we're on the subject of The Hunger Games, this supercut of Jennifer Lawrence interviews is the greatest 12 and a half minutes you'll spend all week. The girl needs to do a comedy, because her timing is genius.

This Harry Potter/Mean Girls mash-up is as awesome as it sounds. I don't know how I lived my life til now without it.

If you like judging people by their bookshelves (let's face it, who doesn't?), you will love this Tumblr. Share your your own shelf if you dare.

Literary Pin-Ups have to be the sexiest kind. Now you can mark off 2013 with a new one each month.

Keep this list of literary insults handy for next time you're in a fight with an idiot (or someone you want to make feel like an idiot). I might take it with me next time I venture on to the Amazon forums...

I want to go to every bookstore on this list. Drool.

This behind-the-scenes look at the Game of Thrones special effects will BLOW YOUR MIND.
