Top Ten: Bookish Confessions

Oh dear, this could get me into trouble...

Source: Someecards

  1. I dog-ear pages to mark my place. The worst part is, I have quite a few bookmarks. Somehow I always go back to the dog ears.
  2. I read constantly, including while I'm eating. Did I mention I'm not very graceful? My books are full of stains.
  3. I like my books to look well loved (see: 1 & 2), but I would never do that to somebody else's. If I have borrowed a book, I treat it with kid gloves.
  4. I judge books by their covers. If a book has a pretty cover, I'm 100 per cent more likely to buy it. If it has a fugly cover, I'll be inclined to pass it over (unless reviews can persuade me otherwise).
  5. I love the smell of books. I love the smell of new books. I love the smell of old books. I love the smell of bookstores. I love the smell of libraries... I can't pick up a book without smelling it, it's like a compulsion.
  6. When I was 11, I went through a massive V.C. Andrews phase. I still enjoy reading her books as a guilty pleasure.
  7. I am literally running out of space for my books, but I can't stop acquiring more. Today, I added 10 to my collection. And that's not counting e-books. I may have a problem.
  8. I compulsively re-arrange my books every few months. I can't seem to find the perfect way to organise them. Series? Colour? Alphabetical? Chronological? It changes all the time.
  9. I get sad when I don't read, or I feel like I'm reading too slowly. I feel guilty when I'm behind on reviews.
  10. My dream is to one day have a library like the real Belle. The chances of this happening are very, very slim. I'd at least like a library with a ladder, so I can do this:

  1. My sister has a library in her home. I'm ober jealous. It has a fireplace and floor to ceiling shelves. She even has a ladder. I'd love one of these.

I don't get the whole book smell thing.

  2. Yay another compulsive re-shelfer. I was actually in the middle of that right now but decided to take a break (and yes, it is six in the morning and was five when I started.) Something about changing them around makes me see them differently and reminds me why I bought these books in the first place - and also reminds me that hey! I have that book, I should probably read it.

    1. Yes, rearranging them reminds me of so many books I forgot all about. It's good (but bad that I forget them in the first place!)

  3. I am the same with 1, 2, 3, 5, 7 and 8.

  4. I am guilty of a lot of these! Except #1 and #2 - I always treat my books very carefully because I am OCD. I don't let many people borrow favorite books because I am so perfectionist about them. I do sometimes buy 2 copies of my absolute favorites so I can loan out one and still have a perfect copy.

And I will also have a library like Belle's in the Beast's castle one day. I told the BF that and he said I could so it will happen! I hope! ;)

    1. I lend out my books, but I'm more worried about people not returning them! That's happened to me a couple of times.

  5. I'm totally with you in regards to the smell of books... I think that's why I've fought the idea of an e-reader for so long-- I feel like it'll take away from the personal attachment I have for the real thing. I'm also running out of room for my books (so much so that my hubby threatens me every time he stubs a toe on the stacks that are lying about everywhere). *Sigh* If only we could all have the library that Belle does!

    Thanks for sharing!

    1. I just got a Kindle, I resisted for a similar reason. I am yet to read a book on it, but it's still pretty fun. It will never totally replace real books for me, though. I'll use both.

  6. OMG I SOOOOOOOOOOOO judge by the cover.
In fact, when the audio cover is lame - I change the cover on my iPod to reflect the cooler paperback or hardback cover.

  7. In my imaginary house I have a beautiful library with books cases on three walls from floor to ceiling, an open fire and a beautiful comfy couch. And I'm another cover judger. :)

  8. I'm totally guilty of #8, too. And I'm totally with you on the ladder/bookshelf dream. The library scene was always my favorite when I was little. (:

    1. Yes! I used to re-enact that and the one where she runs in the field all the time.

  9. I am so with you on 4,5 and 8. And really you do have a book buying problem! How many TBR's to you have now?! lol I also like that you linked that tumblr page.

    1. At last count.... 209. But that's without the new additions. I know, it's terrible. I really need to read faster, or buy less books. Read faster it is!

  10. I went through the same V.C Andrews phase at 11! I tried to pick up Flowers in the Attic a couple of years back but I just couldn't do it. I think i'll leave those ones firmly in my childhood!

    1. Haha I haven't reread Flowers in the Attic lately but I did read Ruby, it was trashtastic.

    2. It's been forever since I read Ruby...maybe I'll search for a copy to take on my holiday - I can only seem to read trash on planes. I think it's because you literally can't go anywhere so my attention span is greatly impacted on.

    3. It's definitely good for brainless beach reads. Did you ever read My Sweet Audrina? I still have nightmares about that shizz.

    4. nooooooo, is that the one with the sisters? haha, sorry that's a really broad and vague description. But I remember one of my friends telling me about a messed up Andrews novel with sisters (one that I hadn't already read!)

    5. Hmmm I think so? lol. Audrina thinks her older sister, also called Audrina, died before she was born, and her dad makes her sit in First Audrina's rocking chair to "capture" her specialness. She begins to have visions of First Audrina's "death", where she was gangraped. Then she finds out SHE'S First Audrina, and they gave her like shock therapy and totally messed with her head. That's just the first part though, heaps of other messed up stuff happens. It's the only VC Andrews one-off (not part of a series) I think.

    6. yowza!! How in the world does she come up with that stuff?!

    7. I definitely don't want to know. But VC Andrews only actually wrote My Sweet Audrina, the Flowers in the Attic series and I think some of Dawn. The rest were written by a ghostwriter after she passed away.

  11. I'm a sucker for a gorgeous cover too but they can be misleading sometimes. And it definitely feels weird when I'm not reading, like something is missing.

    1. Covers can definitely be misleading. Good covers do not make good books - and bad covers do not make bad books! But still, I judge.

  12. I definitely judge books by their covers, although to be honest, I hate misleading covers even more than ugly ones.

I'm way too scared to fold pages or annotate my print books, which is one thing I love about ebooks. I can highlight to my heart's content, and no one needs to know!

  14. Oh, I want at least one of those loooong walls that have an imbeded bookcase, if ya know what I mean! :)) But a ladder...aaah..that would be icing on the top!! :)

But I have the same problem..I always buy more books than I can keep up with, and I have the idea that I will never have enough space for all of them!! XD sigh... and I love re-arranging my books too!! :)

    p.s. I've always felt like I'm a modern Belle too!! :))
