Reading Icons: Julie Andrews

Can we just take a moment and talk about how amazeballs Julie Andrews is? Not only is she Mary Poppins and Maria von Trapp and Eliza Doolittle and a bunch of other awesome characters, she's one classy Dame and a great campaigner for literacy. She's even written a heap of children's books with her daughter. So there are lots of photos of her with books, but I like these best...

  3. I was confused when you called her Eliza Dolittle, and then I remembered that she played her in the musical stage version of My Fair Lady.

    1. Yeah! As much as I love Audrey Hepburn I think Julie would have been awesome in the part.

  7. I'm glad you're introducing your readers to Dame Julie Andrews' books -- she has been writing (as you likely know) since the early 1970s, and has some fantastic books for kids, picture books and middle grade novels. And, as you pointed out, she's a strong advocate for children's literacy, as well as for children's participation in the arts.

    1. Wow, I haven't read it, I'll have to give it a go, thanks Jan! I wonder if she does audio books - I think any story told in her voice would be awesome.
