Pash, Pick or Pass: A Mr Darcy Threesome

Here's a peek into my random thought processes (there's a point, I promise): This week I read Austenland (review to come soon), which made me think of Lost in Austen, which made me think of the different Darcy portrayals over the years, which made me want to do something slightly different for Pash, Pick or Pass this week and make it all about Darcy! Yep, rather than characters battling it out for our affections, I've decided to pit Darcy against Darcy.

The Contenders
Um, Mr Darcy, Mr Darcy and Mr Darcy... Oh, you want more information? Some visual aides? OK, OK, if I must...

Mr Darcy, as played by Colin Firth in the 1995 Pride and Prejudice mini-series

Mr Darcy, as played by Matthew MacFadyenin the 2005 Pride and Prejudice movie

 Mr Darcy, as played by Elliot Cowan in the 2008 mini-series Lost in Austen

My Choices

Pash: Elliot's Mr Darcy. Did you see that picture?! Dare I say it, he pulls off a wet shirt better than Colin Firth. He also has a very sexy voice, and I wouldn't mind him whispering sweet nothings in my ear while we pashed.

Pick: Firth. Do I even need to explain this choice? He's Colin Firth. He IS Mr Darcy. Handsome, passionate, loving, intelligent, selfless, kind... *sigh*

Pass: MacFadyen. To be fair, I thought he was the least offensive thing about the movie (I HATED it) and made an OK Darcy, and even an OK Darcy is better than an awesome version of just about anybody else. Plus that mist scene is pretty swoony (if totally out of character and illogical, but I'm not here to rant). Still, between the three Darcys he's definitely the one I'd pass on.

Which Darcy would you pash/pick/pass?

  1. Couldn't agree more!! I loooove the Firth Darcy. He is the most delicious book-to-screen character ever. And thank you for pointing out that the mist scene makes no sense. It had me completely baffled when I saw the movie - why on earth add such a ridiculous scene when you have the best book ever to base the film on?

  2. PICK: COLIN FIRTH, ALWAYS AND FOREVER

    Pash: MacFadyen, he seems like he'd be good at it. . .

    Pass: Elliot. I'm unsure I've seen that movie. I think I have, and obviously he didn't leave an impression on me. lol

  4. A Darcy Threesome?! Are you trying to give me a heart attack?

    And what? I loved Matthew MacFadyenin as Darcy. Don't hate me, but I loved the remake. Still, I'd love to hear your rant on why you didn't.

    My Choices:
    Pash: Firth
    Pick: MacFadyenin
    Pass: Elliot

  5. Ha! I don't know what this says about me but I'd pass on them all and go for Laurence Olivier from the old 1940's version. ;)

  6. I refuse to even accept that there is a Mr.Darcy that isn't Colin Firth! He just IS.

    But if I had to...

    Pash - Elliot Cowen, but only because he's the lesser of two evils.

    Pick - Colin Firth.

    Pass - Matthew MacFadyenin - why is he so ugly!? You're right, he was the least offensive thing in the film, but it wasn't exactly difficult.

  7. I love Matthew Macfayden. He was in a TV drama here called Spooks and I've loved him ever since :)

  8. So, um... I've never read P&P *dodges heavy objects* One day I will! I just... haven't yet.

    Just from the pictures though, I have to agree with your choices.

    I LOVE Colin Firth and Elliot Cowen? Looks pretty good in that picture ;)

  9. @Willa - There are so many things that baffled me about the movie!

    @April - Oh, that's a shame - I love Lost in Austen!

    @Melissa - that is a great scene!

    @Missie - Yes, yes, that's exactly what I'm trying to do. ;) I won't get started on my rant or we could be here all day hehe.

    @Jenny - I almost put Olivier in but thought I'd stick to the more modern ones. Even though it's not very faithful to the book, it's a fun version :)

    @Hanna - He can look pretty ugly at times, but I thought he was OK as Darcy.

    @Sam - I love Spooks!

    @The Story Queen - O.M.G. You need to read it! That's an order :D

  11. I love love love this.

    I have to say.. that I am 21 so I was 5 when Colin Firth was Mr. Darcy, But even I know he is the true Mr. Darcy. haha

    with that being said. I actually adored the 2005 remake. So I think I would go with Missie's Choices.

    Also, I just realized, although I love the book, I actually don't own it! Shame on me.

  12. @Raimy - True words!

    @KThomas - Hehe, well I was 9 when Firth was Darcy so before I ever read the book, he was already Darcy to me :D

  13. Unfortunately, I haven't seen Lost in Austen, and I haven't therefore fallen in love with THAT Mr Darcy. :) Colin Firth is an absolutely perfect Mr Darcy and I must admit I liked Matthew MacFadyenin's performance. And the film.

    I found your blog while I was googling pictures of these two handsome Mr Darcies, for my own blog. :)
