Bookish Buys: Babylit

I saw these on Reading Teen and just had to post about them. Babylit is a range of books that are, well, baby versions of classic literature. They are board books for ages one and up. I think it's a wonderful idea and the books themselves are so freaking adorable. The only one I'm not sure about is Romeo & Juliet - I'm guessing the original ending is absent, but still, I don't know that it's a story I'd want to introduce kids to at a young age. I love the others though - especially Pride and Prejudice, of course!

Check out previews of the books - and/or purchase them - here.

  1. I love that Alice in Wonderland cover!

I think you're right about Romero and Juliet. maybe it'll be like the children's edition of "The Power of One" which ended halfway through the book, leaving out some of the more brutal parts. Can't say Jane Eyre is necessarily child friendly either in parts...!

    1. You're right - the whole pyromaniac crazy lady locked up in the attic is not exactly kid friendly!

  2. Oh for goodness sakes, these books are ADORABLE! I've never even heard of Babylit before, but I love it! These covers would also be pretty tempting to use as baby art in a nursery...

  5. These are adorable! I've seen the Pride & Prejudice one at a bookstore before - it's actually a counting book (5 sisters, 9 fancy ball gowns, etc). I don't think any of them actually tell the story, they just teach counting using details from the classic novels. Definitely an adorable way to introduce the classics to a baby though!

    1. I know what you mean - I still think there are probably more appropriate classics for babies though - like The Secret Garden or The Wizard of Oz :)

    2. Haha very true! Romeo & Juliet (and Jane Eyre, really) are definitely strange choices! The Secret Garden would be ADORABLE! Or Little Women. Or Anne of Green Gables. Ok, I'll stop now :)

  6. They are gorgeous and a clever idea! I like the Alice in Wonderland one but like you I wonder if they've changed the ending of R&J?

  7. I bought the Pride and Prejudice one for my niece. She doesn't really get it...but she totally will when she's a bit older. I'll make sure of it.

I love the Jane Eyre one and Romeo + Juliet (and I don't even like that play!)

    Thanks for sharing :)

  9. Covers are defenetely nice.. but do you imagine the disappointment of the child who find out that Romeo and Juliet are dying in the real story. And they'd believed it was happy end.

    1. What i mean is.. there're lots of book which are appropriate to the different ages, no need to adapt them.
