My Book Boyfriend: Edward Cullen

My Book Boyfriend, hosted by the lovely Missie at The Unread Reader, is a weekly meme that allows book bloggers to showcase our fictional crushes (and drool over each other's). I've avoided featuring Edward Cullen for a long time because it seemed like such an obvious choice, and now the time has come when I'd planned to feature him in honour of the release of Breaking Dawn... and I have to admit, I think I'm over him. I never thought this day would come, but there it is.

Once upon a time, I was full-on obsessed with both Edward Cullen and Rob Pattinson, rereading the books and rewatching the movies over and over again, visiting Twilight blogs daily and plastering my man wall/desktop with photos of RPattz. But these days? They barely muster a smile, let alone a squee. When trying to find quotes for this post, I struggled - what I once found hot now just seems super cheesy and lame. I dunno, I think maybe I've just come across so many awesome books (and book boyfriends) since reading Twilight, Edward just pales in comparison (and not coz he's a vampire). I'm watching Breaking Dawn tonight, so maybe that will reignite my passion. But I'm still picking Edward now, for old time's sake... and for the love that once was [insert sigh and look of longing here].

Swoon-Worthy (And Occasionally Laughable) Quotes

"I have always loved you, and I will always love you. I was thinking of you, seeing your face in my mind, every second that I was away. When I told you that I didn’t want you, it was the very blackest kind of blasphemy.”

“If I could dream at all it would be about you.”

“For almost ninety years I’ve walked among my kind, and yours…  all the time thinking I was complete in myself, not realizing what I was seeking. And not finding anything, because you weren’t alive yet.”

“Then you were nearly crushed to death in front of my eyes. Later I thought of a perfectly good excuse for why I acted at that moment - because if I hadn't saved you, if your blood had been spilled there in front of me, I don't think I could have stopped myself from exposing us for what we are. But I only thought of that excuse later. At the time, all I could think was, 'Not her.”

  2. I'd have to agree with Kthomas, everyone had this phase. I know that I have 3 Edward tshirts, a sweatshirt, about 4 or 5 different posters, two calendars, and countless other Edward/Rob stuff. I still love Edward and Rob but I think it was over done. Kinda took the fun out of it when everyone else obsessed as well as me.

As for seeing Breaking Dawn tonight, HOW?? It comes out on the 18th.

  3. I read alll the books after the first movie and had an obsession with Edward, but after seeing Taylor launtner shirtless I soon switched to a Jacob fan. Which was good in a way because I reread the books and found new respect for Jacob.
    Edwards not bad though ;)

  4. @Kthomas - Haha, I know. It was nice while it lasted.

@Must Love Books - It comes out the 17th here, it's the 16th now, and my friend had a pass to see an early screening :) I had one or two callenders and a helluva lot of posters myself :D

@Abbey - Taylor is definitely awesome, especially shirtless. Have you seen Abduction? That's kinda fun. I love Jacob. I just HATE Renesmess* and all that shamozzle.

*This was a typo but I think it's totally appropriate so I'm leaving it.

  8. I was in love with edward way before all of the cool kids were doing it. I was in love with him when the picture of Edward in my head was still Henry Cavill and Bella was Emily Browning. There was a time when Edward would literally make me cry because of how wonderful he was...all the RPATZ and KSTEW have kind of killed it for me...but when I read the first book I still get that I <3 Edward feeling sometimes :)

  9. I keep meaning to go back and reread the books again but I never do. It's amazing the amount of people who started reading and blogging after reading Twilight but I agree we have kind of moved on but will probably all go see the movie!

  11. when it came time to choose my choice for this week i couldn't help but think of edward because its not only the week pt 1 comes out but because for the last 3 years I've been collecting as many poster of him as possible my whole room has all three stars I even have a dedicated wall for just Taylor so yeah i can see the appeal to want to hold on to him a little while longer plus rob wasn't my first choice but after twilight he brought me in and has been tantalizing me ever since

  13. I never got much into the Twilight books, but I can definitely appreciate the beauty that is Robert. Of course, he will always be Cedric Diggory for me! Hope you enjoyed the movie!

  14. Twilight was my first vampire book ever! So, naturally, I fell in love with him...But I totally agree with you. I think he gets lamer with every other paranormal romance novel I read...Poor Edward ;-)

  15. Oh dear, Edward. I would have dumped his ass right back at the beginning. :) I'm not one to abide pushy domineering types!

(And I really, REALLY want to pluck those eyebrows)

  16. Aww Edward :) I went through that Edward phase too. I bought countless amounts of crap that I didn't need just because it had Edwards/Robs face plastered all over it.

I love Edward, he'll always hold a special place in my heart because it was Twilight that got me reading so I owe Edward a massive thank you. I've seen Breaking Dawn, and I squeed a lot. I'll always love the books and Edward, but I've reached my limit and am just 'normal'.

Lovely post though :) I've been meaning to use Edward myself but held off for the same reasons.
